Text 2 Sep Chili Sunday!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all having a spectacular long weekend so far! Today I am laying low and spending the day at home with my kitties, while my Hubby is gone having a guys day. So I decided to surprise him and I am going to make some yummy low sodium, low calorie Chili!

This recipe can be done two ways, depending on how much time you have and how much money you want to spend. One great way to make a tasty healthy chili is by using McCormick’s Low Sodium Seasoning. They make really great seasonings and this one happens to be really Very good! It has many of the same ingredients as the other recipe I am going to share, however you can’t really customize this one as easily.

But, if you want a quick cheap healthy option this one is great!

1 pkg. McCormick Seasoning Mix
1 lb. lean ground beef or turkey
1 can (14 1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained or 2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce
1 can (15 to 16 oz.) kidney or pinto beans, undrained

1. BROWN meat in large skillet on medium-high heat. Drain fat.

2. STIR in Seasoning Mix, tomatoes and beans. Bring to boil. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with toppings, if desired.

Now if you are like me and you happen to have a pantry full of spices and a a few hours then this next one might be perfect for you. This says crock pot, but  if you don’t have one, you can still make it in a large soup pot. I actually prefer a soup pot if i am going to be home.

1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey

1 can no-salt-added pinto beans

1 can no-salt-added kidney beans

1 can low-sodium crushed tomatoes

1 can low-sodium tomato puree

4 teaspoons oregano

4 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce (more or less depending on how much heat you like)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 teaspoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1 1/2 cups chopped onions

1 1/2 cups chopped green peppers

I know this looks like a lot of ingredients but I promise it isn’t and it only takes 4 basic steps and then you wait!


1 Brown ground beef, rinse under water.

2 Brown peppers, onion and garlic.

3 Mix all ingredients in crock pot.

4 Let cook at low heat for 4- 8 hours.

5 Dig in!

Give one of these recipes a try and let me know what you think! Both of these can be adjusted to your specific tastes. And try adding a few toppings before serving it, slice up a yummy avocado, low fat cheese, low fat sour cream or anything else your mind can come up with! I plan to make mine in a tortilla bowl with avocado and low fat cheese on top!
